The late Carl F. Heeschen (1916-1994) was a respected professor of art at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA for 35 years. Born in Davenport, Iowa, Heeschen earned his Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in northern Africa and Europe during World War II. At the end of the war, Heeschen taught art classes to GIs at Shrivenham American University in England. He was hired by Allegheny College in 1947 and taught there until his retirement in 1982, serving as chairman of the art department for nearly thirty years.
